Concrete Driveway Repair

Concrete Driveway Repair

I had a pretty nasty spot in my concrete driveway that needed repair. This picture show the area after it had been chiseled out. A friend helped me out on this project and chiseled out the area needing repair to a depth of 3-4 inches. The more concrete that you can get into the problem area - the better it will set up for you later.

After a bit of work digging out the concrete, this picture shows us troweling in the concrete. We could have added some gravel to the mix which would have helped make it a bit stronger but I think this will do.

Here's another shot of us filling in the area under repair. This section was right at a seam between two concrete sections of the driveway which made it a bit tricky. By the way, rubber gloves always come in handy when working with concrete. They make clean up a lot easier.

After digging/chiseling out the concrete section needing repair, we took a shop-vac and vacuumed out all the loose gravel and dust. From there we used the Concrete Bonding Adhesive to coat the ground under repair. The Concrete Bonding Adhesive does exactly what the name implies - it helps in bonding the concrete to the old concrete and to the ground.

We added the Concrete Acrylic Fortifier to our concrete mix to improve bonding between existing surfaces, eliminate moist curing and reduce permeability. With this product, I didn't have to cover the area for five days to allow for moist curing of the concrete.

Here's the finished shot of the concrete driveway repair/patch. I sealed the rest of the driveway with some Thompson's Water Seal but I decided to give this area time to cure. It's a little darker than the rest of the driveway but with time it will blend in.
