Converting your Garage to a Home Office or Extra Living Space
Here's an after shot - after all the construction was done. Looks like a pretty cozy home office set up, huh? Why did I convert my garage into a home office.
1 - Because I could. I have a utility shed out back where I can store all the junk that was in the garage. My car has a little rougher life, but it's no big deal to keep it outside.
2 - I love the commute. It takes me about 3.8 seconds to get from my back door to the garage/home office.

3 - Convenience - no more running to the office just to get the mail or retrieve a fax.
4 - Cheaper - I've saved a ton of money on rent and insurance so far - not to mention gas savings.
5 - I love working at home without the issues of working at home. Since I'm in a separate structure, it's easier to maintain a working environment.
6 - I don't have to deal with rush hour traffic anymore. In fact, I hate driving in traffic at all as I've gotten so use to not driving.
7 - It may add to the value of my house. Someone else may appreciate the 250 square feet that I added with the garage to home office conversion.
8 - I can turn it back into a garage with a little effort.
9 - Security - someone is almost always at home now.
10 - It will pay for itself in about a year and a half in rent, insurance and other savings.
We've outlined the entire garage conversion process here.
