Booda Dome Cleanstep Cat Box

Booda Dome Cleanstep Cat Box

I'm in search of the world's best litter box. Actually, I'm in search of a litter box that my cat will do its business inside of. What am I talking about? I started with an open design litter box (just the bottom half). My cat would often do its business over the side of the box. I ended up having to surround the box with newspaper.

I graduated to the completely enclosed litter box. It had a hinged door that the cat could push open - much like a pet door. With a litter box liner however, the door would not open easily, so I took the door off. My cat still found a way to hang its rear end through the opening and over the edge. What a nightmare!

Now I'm waiting to receive my Booda Dome Cleanstep Cat Box. As you can see from the design, this is a much more spacious litter box. My cat (I hope) will walk around the corner and not be able to hang its rear end through the opening and over the edge. I sure hope it works. I'm awaiting delivery and tired of cleaning up cat poop off the floor.

I received the Booda Dome Litter Box and it's not a bad system. My cat did manage to hang her rear over the corner and hit the steps a couple times but lately she has been using the box just fine. It does cut down on the odor some. The dome shape seems to funnel all the odor up through the filtered top but it doesn't kill all the odor. I like how you can just pull the top off for easy access to the bottom half of the litter box. The Booda came with one litter box liner. After that, I used some others that I had and tried to make them fit the irregular design as best as possible. Everyone is after continued customer dollars well after the initial sale and Booda does this by forcing you to buy their irregular litter box liners. Overall not a bad system but there is a much better system.

Towards the end of this litter box search, I started thinking that there must be a better way. I mean, I'm putting a ton of cat litter into the landfills and that is a literal figure. Every year I go through about one ton of cat litter. Actually, if you weighed it after use, it's probably closer to two tons. That's ridiculous. I was thinking about a new litter box design - one that would let urine pass through - and I found exactly what I was thinking about in the Tidy Cat's Breeze Litter Box System. The Tidy Cat's Breeze Litter Box System has a false bottom with slits cut in it. It comes with special non-absorbent litter that can be used for up to a month or more. Urine passes over and around the litter and through the slits into a holding pan which contains an absorbent pad. The pad can be removed easily as it is contained in a drawer at the bottom. The pad lasts for about a week depending on how many cats you have. In my opinion, the litter should last for much longer than a month and you can probably go longer than a week on the pad with just one cat. I'm testing it now.

You can buy a four pack of replacement pads for $10 or for only $6.69 through Amazon.com. You can buy a six pack of replacement litter pellets for $42.80 which should get you through the year. I figure that I was spending at least a grand a year on plain ol' cat litter. With the Breeze system, it should cut my cat waste expenses to under $200 a year. Not to mention, that I don't have to lug 40 pound bags of litter around every couple weeks or deal with getting used litter in the trash. What a pain in the arse!

Getting your cat trained on the new Tidy Cat's Breeze Litter Box System. Keep some of your old cat litter and sprinkle it over the Tidy Cat's Breeze pellets. Keep your old litter box out with the Tidy Cat's box. Once your cat uses the Tidy Cat's Breeze Box, remove the old litter box and you're good to go. The only problem is - you will quickly learn what a pain dealing with regular old cat litter used to be. It's amazing what we can condition ourselves to. Btw, for feces, you just use the Tidy Cat's scoop that is specially designed for the litter pellets and scoop out the poop. Poop that is not solid can be a problem that requires you to place the pellets sooner.

One last benefit of the Breeze litter box system. Your cat may yak much less. Apparently, some cats can't deal with the dust in regular cat litter or with swallowing it when they groom themselves. There's ain't no dust with these Tidy Cat litter pellets.
