Register Booster Fan

Register Booster Fan

It seems like almost every house has a room that is colder than every other room in the house. Mine is a first floor bedroom, and I suspect that the previous owner may have died in that room. I could be wrong but it seems like a good explanation for why it is so cold in that room. One way to deal with heating this room is through a register booster fan.

A register booster fan is basically a fan with a thermostat. It sits on or against a heating register. When hot air blows through it (when the furnace is working), the thermostat detects this and turns on the fan. The fan adds a little more muscle to the flow of hot air through the register and thus heats a room more quickly. When the hot air quits flowing through the device, the thermostat detects this and shuts off the fan. A register booster fan can also be used with air conditioning. You can even find models that can be built into the duct itself and hard wired into existing electrical lines! They can be a little noisy but if you have a hard to heat area in your house, the noise is worth the heating payoff.
